Watch out for a new malware campaign that masquerades as a legitimate account activation mail.  The latest malware is spreading and infecting networks using fake emails that inform recipients their BlackBerry ID has been created, researchers from   Websense ThreatSeeker Network   said. The text of the email is the same as the legitimate BlackBerry account creation notices sent by Research in Motion to new users. It's the attachment that is dangerous.
Users are encouraged to download the malicious file and run the attachment. Attackers are then able to drop other malicious files and modify the system Registry, making it automatically run malware programs whenever the system starts.  less

"What you're really doing is putting civilian infrastructure on the front line in this non-existent war. The military is basically saying 'we've saved you a little old fashioned bombing - you should be happy,' but that's not appropriate."
Ranum's position brought applause from the audience, but others were less impressed. Black Hat founder Jeff Moss said that he was more supportive of using malware in this way, since it provided military options without the need to endanger human life.

"I've always thought that these were tools in the spectrum of proportional force in between harsh words and dirty looks and Mark II bombs," said Moss. "Now instead of blowing up plants and killing people you can attack the equipment, and this is another notch on the proportionality meter. When an organization considers cyber threats, they are normally looking at them from a defensive perspective, e.g. How can I protect myself? For a single organization, increased defense means many attackers may look for easier targets. This method may somewhat reduces cyber threats to the organization, but not reduce threats on the whole. This group is dedicated to looking at the problem of cyber threats from non-traditional perspectives to reduce cyber threats at the source.

in the topic SC Mag-Information Security is Recession Proof!..(but I'm not) in the forum Career Advice
@James Lee sir: In my opinion, the major market is of Compliance and Auditing as more and more the companies are required to become compliant esp. in India. Govt. of India is forcing such stricter laws that to have a due diligence factor a company need to have compliance. Hence, my simple advice would be to go for a certification of "ISO 27001 Lead Auditor". Self-Study is a good part but the only thing which sells in the market is the one which is shown to the market in a tangible form. Hence, even if you had done the self study of the same, I will request you to go for the certification exam. Majority of the people on earth are having specialization in the horizontal one but not in the vertical. So to excel one need to have specialization in some vertical. Since you had been in the industry for a long time, I think Compliance will be the perfect line... Showing due diligence factor by the Board of Directors and the companies is going to become necessary in the coming decade. Whatever I had mentioned in my previous comments wasn't just the old sage knowledge... instead it was having the hidden meaning of whatever I had said above just now. Since I am still in a nascent stage I can't comment much on the future prospects. I am able to see currently Indian perspectives only!
